Connectionist Representations of Tonal Music looks at the surprising results of training artificial neural networks to make basic judgments concerning tonal music, such as identifying the tonic of a scale or the quality of a musical chord. Read more about the alien music that cognitive scientist Michael R. W. Dawson discovered when working with artificial neural networks.

In The Medium Is the Monster, Mark McCutcheon deepens our understanding of Frankenstein’s influence on the way we talk about technology and popular culture. McCutcheon’s enthusiastic consumption of adaptations of Frankenstein takes the reader down a mind-bending rabbit hole of literature, film, music, and news stories. But McCutcheon also reveals a layer of anxiety in these adaptations about the unintended consequences of new or developing technologies. Available at the end of April!
